Coimbra is the official capital of Portugal

Coimbra was named the capital in 1135 and remained there until 1255. But in 1255, with the growth of Lisbon, King Afonso III decided to move the court to that city. And although Lisbon then became the capital of Portugal, because the court started living there, the truth is that King Afonso III or any other king never signed a document that made Lisbon the official capital of Portugal. There is no document in the Torre do Tombo which says that Lisbon is the capital of Portugal.

In reality Coimbra remains the official capital of Portugal.
